WAKE : THE FLUIDIC MECHANICS OF PERFUME
published on 2021-03-23
For more than 20 years, OSMOART & Pierre Bénard has specialized in olfactory design suitable for cultural projects such as theatrical performances, dances, exhibitions and other indoor or outdoor shows.
Pierre Bénard took care of creating scented atmospheres for several concerts such as, for example, that of singer Alain Bashung at the Bataclan in 2003 for “La Tournée des grands espace”.
Through olfactory scenographies, OSMOART takes on the function of olfactory manager for the preparation, coordination and execution of odorization of places and events.
Connected by a common interest in fluid mechanics in the optimization of fragrance diffusion, a partnership has been created between ENSEEIHT & OSMOART.
The objective of this meeting is to develop a controllable scent diffusion system based on a principle of nebulization.
As there are sound and visual controls, this material will allow the development of a new profession: that of olfactory manager.
Since October 2020, Theo Rostaing and Mohamed Kabbar, two students at ENSEEIHT in the third year of MF2E (Fluid Mechanics, Energetics and Environment) have been working on the project proposed by OSMOART and tutored by their teacher Gérald Debenest.
At first, they studied the art of the project in order to familiarize with the existing device and to understand all the phenomena that come into play in order to propose an improved prototype.
The second part of their research was to carry out a mecafluidic study of the diffusion system.
This made it possible to propose experimental parameters for optimal diffusion of the perfume in the air and to be able to optimize an odor diffusion console.
PARTNERSHIP
For this project, we are looking for partners from different horizons, institutional, financial, cultural or entrepreneurial, to help us in this process and the creation of this new material for a new olfactory profession.
