BREATHING THE WOODS
published on 2020-12-12” Forests, the green lungs of our planet, perfume the air we breathe.
Trees, from their roots to their tops, contain their essential oils, their essences, their perfumes.
They are sources of inspiration for perfumers.”

BE INSPIRED BY TREES
In 2016, we had already initiated this conference with students of the Givaudan internal school of perfumery, directed at that time by Alain Alchenberger.
Since then, this research work on “woody scents” has been inlaid, refined to offer olfactory and interactive training to students and actors in the profession or not.
At the end of March 2019, this theme was offered to the École Supérieure du Bois de Nantes.
Thanks to Calice Becker, vice-president perfumer and director of the School, we were able to set up with Eugenie Briot, program manager, 6 conference / training sessions in late November and early December 2020.
Lasting 2 hours and adapted to health measures, these were followed online by the student perfumers of the new class who normally study in Argenteuil.
The Givaudan School of Perfumery offers an exemplary training program each year to a few handpicked young people with a modern vision of learning.
With humility, we are still honored to bring our knowledge of raw materials and their uses in creation to this breeding ground for talent.
An online conference series
- Tree tops (conifers)
- Tree tops (resins)
- Fleshwoods (sandalwood and linalool wood)
- Dry woods (Juniperus)
- Animalic woods & lichens
- Underwood & roots
This initiation through olfactory materials from the universe of trees, natural or synthetic, makes the link with disciplines such as botany, odor chemistry and extraction processes, traditional uses in perfumery and design of olfactory space.
Our thanks to Andrea, Ashley, Carol, Clare, Julie, Wesley, Samantha for their attendance.
