BODY ODORS & VOLATILE BODIES
published on 2020-11-02FOR OLFACTORY CHOREOGRAPHIES
Our first experience in contact with dance and dancers was with the DCA Company of choreographer Phillippe DECOUFLE, during the victorious football world cup in 1998 in the cultural space of the square Casanova “Les petits tritures” in Saint-Denis.
Then, the company “Le Trait Bleu” presented in 2003, a choreographic creation by Kassam BAIDER “the perfumes of the mists”, a show around the search for a mysterious perfume, hidden, until then imperceptible.
This show was aimed at both a young audience, adults, dance enthusiasts and dance professionals.
We were making what we call “odor scanners”, an installation of video projections with diffusions of perfumes.
In 2005, we worked on the theme of water with the timeless ballet of J.M MATOS during the digital arts festival at the Odyssud cultural center in Blagnac.
Since then, we have set ourselves the objective of meeting dance companies and choreographers who wish to cooperate with “olfactory sceno-choreographies”.
According to Etienne Souriau’s classification of the seven arts of the aesthetic philosopher, dance and pantomime are the art of movement in this fine art system.
We are convinced that this art of the body is the closest to giving the most faithful representation of smell and fragrance.
As a link between the senses of sight and smell, it gives the representation of matter in moving air.
Intimately linked, the art of dance and that of perfume are directed towards an aesthetic research; and for dance, that of the beauty of the human body whose art of perfume seeks to sublimate it.
As the choreographer stages the body of the dancer in a space, the perfumer will sculpt volatile bodies in order to create an olfactory form in a volume.
Tribute to our friend François Bourru, photographer:
“My idea was to reveal the invisible aura of the human being in my photograph.”
“I asked my dancer & choreographer friend the talented Sebastien Laplanche to come to my studio: his body language and his experience corresponded to what I was looking for to express movement & experience technical effects during and after taking view;
It was by seeing Sébastien’s energy performance that I wanted to push photography to unusual limits and I obtained a timeless ‘Dance of the Aura’. “
