PERFUMER’S FURNITURE

In 1884, in his book À rebours, the French writer Joris-Karl Huysmans imagined a piece of furniture for the perfumer which he called the perfume organ.

Axelle Joussard, student in the National Diploma of Arts and Design at the Professional Furniture High School in Revel, did us the honor of designing this piece of furniture for her thesis, inspired by our love for perfume and Japan.

THE FUNCTION OF DESIGN

Young designer, Axelle, was able to immerse herself in our vision of perfumery during a meeting in the summer of 2021.

She determined our needs so that this piece of furniture is as functional as it is aesthetic in order to deposit our creative tests and some rare natural raw materials.

A host piece of furniture for our visitors that emanates from our spirit.

JAPANESE INSPIRED

Knowing our passion for Japan, Axelle directed her research towards traditional interiors, architecture and Japanese furniture.:

– The Tokonoma, interior room of the Japanese house, it is a reception and  an exhibition space.

It exhibits censers and candlesticks, works of art, okimonos (Japanese sculptures), prints but also elements related to nature such as bonsai or ikebana floral compositions.

– The chōchin has been mentioned in history since 1085.

Traditionally carmine in color, it is used to illuminate cities as well as architecture. We call it today, in the West, the lantern. In contemporary design, the lantern retains its lightness but accentuates its minimalist and refined shape.

– The Shoji panel which makes it possible to separate rooms in a house and to modulate its interior space made with finesse of wood and Washi paper making it light and subtle.

– The traditional zaisu, a chair without legs on the floor…

EXHIBITION

The piece of furniture will be installed and displayed on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

On this occasion, we will open our doors in the afternoon from 2 p.m.

調香師の家具 

1884年、『さかしま』という本の中で、フランスの作家ジョリス＝カルル・ユイスマンスは、調香師のための家具を想像し、「香水オルガン」（香料などを並べた机の形がオルガンのように見えることから）と名付けました。 

レヴェル・インテリア職業高校芸術デザイン専攻のアクセル・ジュサーは、彼女の卒業制作において、光栄にも私たちが香水と日本に傾ける情熱からヒントを得て、この家具を考案しました。 

デザインの機能 

彼女と初めて出会った2021年の夏、若きデザイナー・アクセルは、私たちが見据える香水業界の展望について少しずつ理解を示してくれました。 

そして、われわれが心の中で求めていたものを彼女は上手にくみとり、美しくも実用的で、試作品や貴重な天然香料を置くことができる家具を見事作り上げました。 

仕事場にいらっしゃったお客様を歓迎する、家具のような道具――それも、私たちの精神から出来上がったもの――。 

日本から得た着想 

私たちの日本に対する熱い思いをよく知っているアクセルは、日本の建築や調度品、伝統的な室内装飾を対象に研究を行いました。 

床の間……日本家屋内の一角にある客間で、集った人々が座敷飾りを鑑賞するための場でもあります。そこには、香炉、燭台、芸術品、置物、掛け軸、それから盆栽や生け花といった自然にかかわる物を飾ります。 

提灯……史料での最古の言及は1085年にさかのぼると言われます。伝統的に洋紅色で、街や建物を照らします。西洋では今日「ランピオン」と呼ばれているものです。現代デザインにおいて、ランピオンは軽さを保ちながら、その洗練された形状を際立たせています。 

障子……部屋を仕切って、室内の形を変えることができます。和紙と木で作られており、それらの精巧さが、障子に軽みや繊細さをもたらしています。 

座椅子……脚がなく、床に直に接する椅子のことです。 

展示 

本家具は2022年6月25日（土）に設置され、この機会に展示を予定しております。当日は14時より皆さまに公開いたします。
