THE SEA, an olfactory concert
published on 2022-02-02The National Orchestra of Cannes & Osmoart offers spectators a unique sensory experience where the auditory sense meets the olfactory sense.
By harmonizing the listening with the olfaction of marine fragrances, the public is immersed in the heart of La Mer by Claude Debussy that they can hear, imagine but also smell on these three symphonic paintings.
Debussy has always had a particular attraction for the sea and the ocean, ever since he was a child he discovered the lights of the Mediterranean at his aunt’s house in Cannes.
Like the Impressionist painters, the composers attached to this artistic movement often saw water as a source of inspiration.
Benjamin Levy will direct the student-musicians of the Institute for Higher Education in Music and Véronique Gens will lend her enchanting voice to Chausson’s Poème de l’Amour et de la Mer.

Pierre Bénard, perfumer-creator who imagined the fragrances for this concert, is a member of the International Society of Perfumers-Creators, an association linked to IFRA
The olfactory compositions broadcast during the concert are made according to the recommendations of IFRA, International Fragrance Association.
The diffusion is carried out by micronization and it is non-wetting. It has no direct contact with the skin.
From dawn to noon on the sea –
The ambergris of the sperm whale, precious concretion of the perfumer, floats calmly on the surface of each wave and wanders, on the edges, between land and sea.
Games waves –
Like the sunlight it carries, the fragrant sea air shimmers on the surface of the water towards mysterious depths.
Dialogue of wind and sea –
The scent becomes more foamy, tumultuous…raised by the threatening swell, dark tones spring from the depths of the sea.
