olfactory concert

Centre culturel Henri-Desbals
“A perfume is a writing, a message. The scents that compose it create a sensation, as sounds are to music, light to colors, and whose vector is air.” With this masterpiece dedicated to the four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter), the famous Italian maestro Antonio Vivaldi composes this grandiose universal hymn to nature and climatology with all the genius of his expressive virtuoso musical language. What we know less well is that the composer took great care to connect his music to the writing of sonnets regarding each season. Etymologically, the word sonnet derives from the language of sound, like the tune of a sung melody or a little song. Pierre Bénard will perfume these tunes by offering, with a perfumer’s touch, an olfactory interpretation of these four poems. In this exercise, it is no longer perfumes that will accompany symphonic tableaux but an orchestra, that of the Toulouse chamber orchestra, and a perfumer-creator who will accompany the words of its author.
