SENSITIVE AND OLFACTIVE MAPS
published on 2023-05-11Olfactory maps are an original and avant-garde way to visit or (re)discover the heritage of a place, a perimeter, a village, a city, to appropriate one’s city thanks to its nose.
ENHANCE FUTURE GENERATIONS
For several years, Osmoart has given itself the mission of instilling the notion of smell and perfume in non-professional schools through olfaction courses, intimately linked with the discipline.
For several years now, we have been working with Master’s students in “sensory design” at ISCID in Montauban.
Thanks to Anne-Charlotte Baudequin, young researcher and sensory designer (specialized in olfactory) and temporary teaching and research associate in Toulouse (Jean-Jaurès University), we supervise the “olfactory design” courses.
This year, we proposed to the students an in situ subject to develop, in groups, an olfactory cartography of the city of Lavaur.
Happy to support our students, we proposed to the Tarn-Agout tourist office to host the research work carried out by Alicia, Anaïs, Camille, Jade, Lisa, Marie, Maria and Pauline giving rise to an unprecedented exhibition of the 4 projects.
The exhibition called “(Re)sentir Lavaur, sensitive maps of the city” was held from March 25 to April 30, 2023 in the premises of the Lavaur tourist office.
By associating places and smells, this exhibition allowed visitors to apprehend the city differently and in an original and sensitive way to (re)discover its history and its natural and cultural heritage in a different way.
OLFACTORY WALKS
Following this first partnership with the Tarn-Agout tourist office, we have set up olfactory walks for the summer of 2023, the months of July and August, allowing the public to visit the town of Lavaur with the end of their nose.
This walk is accompanied by the vauréen perfumer Pierre Bénard during a morning to evoke the scents that are on the way.
ARTISTIC WALKS
The artist Irina Pentecouteau consulted us for the implementation of her classification into different olfactory categories for her personal olfactory cartography of the city of Toulouse named “Flair”.
Flair is the result of a year of collecting olfactory impressions made day after day, along its journeys in Toulouse.
Three strata break down this map, categories, appreciations and wakes.
Irina also talks about memory and memories linked to each olfactory harvest, her nose has sharpened and her sensory memory has been consolidated over the months.
This approach was presented during the exhibition in which we participated, “At sight of the nose” in 2022, at the Fabrique @ciamut2j at the university of Mirail, in Toulouse, as part of the colloquium on olfactory creation, organized by @annecharlotte.baudequin and Émilie Bonnard.
YOUR SCENTED CITY
Thanks to its connections, OSMOART, perfumes, colors and sounds implements olfactory mapping projects for your city by proposing a team of artists, designers and perfumers and revealing the essence of your city.
The preliminary study will allow the proposal of intramural olfactory installations and systems to be able to discover or rediscover your city thanks to the medium of smell.
